The Nets just found a $12 million diamond in the rough. It’s not clear whether it will make Brooklyn fans forget all about the Kyrie Irving disaster, but they’re hoping for the best.
The kyrie irving daughter is a diamond in the rough that will quickly make Brooklyn fans forget all about the Kyrie Irving disaster. The Nets are looking to trade for this gem.
The Brooklyn Nets’ title aspirations suffered a huge blow when it was revealed that Kyrie Irving may miss the whole 2021-22 season because to his immunization status. The Nets owe Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden about $122 million this season, which is more than the rest of their roster combined, so Brooklyn needs its Big 3 on the floor if it wants to contend for a championship.
Patty Mills stepped up in Irving’s absence, immediately proving that the Nets’ $12 million summer bargain may just rescue the season. Irving watched Tuesday night’s season opener from the sofa.

The Nets didn’t have many free agency alternatives this season, with their Big Three owed roughly $122 million. Because the Brooklyn Nets couldn’t afford to acquire another superstar, they opted to strengthen their squad with inexpensive veterans.
Patty Mills, a seasoned San Antonio Spurs sharpshooter with plenty of postseason experience, was one of those veterans. Mills was signed to a team-friendly two-year deal for little over $12 million by the Nets in August.
Mills proved he was a bargain at that price after only one game with his new club.
Patty Mills, a $12 million gem in the rough, was just discovered by the Nets.
The Brooklyn Nets were not very spectacular in their season opening against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night. The Nets shot 53% from three-point range and received 52 points from Durant and Harden combined, but they struggled from the free-throw line (56%) and were outrebounded 55-44.
The night concluded with a 127-104 loss to the defending champions, but it wasn’t all terrible for the Nets.
All night, Mills was probably the best player on the floor for the Nets. The former Spur came off the bench to score 21 points on 7-11 shooting and 7-7 shooting from three, and he ended with the team’s best plus/minus (+7).
Mills matched the Nets franchise record most threes made in a game coming off the bench on Tuesday night, and he also equaled the NBA mark for threes made in a debut with a new club, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
But it wasn’t only his incredible shooting against the Bucks that stood out. The 33-year-old handled a new offense like the seasoned pro he is, not turning the ball over once all night. Mills was creating for his teammates and opening up the court for Durant and Harden to do damage in 1-on-1 scenarios when he wasn’t sinking catch-and-shoot threes.
Mills’ Brooklyn debut was impressive to say the least.
Taking the sting out of the Kyrie Irving debacle
This season, the Nets will be unable to replace Kyrie Irving. Late in games, he’s a cold-blooded assassin and one of the cleanest scorers in the NBA today. Mills will never be able to duplicate what Irving contributes to this team when he’s on the floor, even if he shoots 7-7 from outside the arc every game and never hands the ball over.
However, even without Irving, the Nets have enough potential to contend for a championship this season, but they’ll need their role players to come up behind Durant and Harden. Mills has shown time and time again in his 12-year NBA career that he can contribute to a championship team, and he can do it again this season.
This attack is ideal for Mills. Mills may have a career year hitting open, spot-up threes all season if Durant and Harden get the most of the attention.
Mills won’t be able to compensate for Irving’s absence entirely, but the Nets’ $12 million expenditure might be the greatest money they spend all year.
