Today the newest trailer for the upcoming Sherlock game was released, and it’s looking fantastic. The new trailer introduces us to a number of new gameplay systems like Mycroft’s AI companion (who appears to be very… friendly), crossbow combat, stealth takedowns, etc. For more information on these features please watch our interview with Frogwares CEO Carsten Fichtelmann below or visit their website.,
Sherlock is a British television drama series based on the Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes detective stories. The show has been filmed in London, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson.
Frogwares, the publisher and developer of adventure game Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, has published a new behind-the-scenes film that delves further into the cinematic approaches utilized to accentuate the affects of the game’s most compelling narrative moments.
The first chapter of Sherlock Holmes chronicles the detective’s early years and his evolution into the genius who has captivated so many people. The game’s premise, according to Lead Cinematic Artist Dmytryi Teplynskyi, is a “deep dive into his head,” with the protagonist’s flaws exposed through the trials he faces.
Negative space is used to represent a character’s supremacy inside a scene in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, whereas frames within frames are used to imply a rupture between two disputing characters.
According to Cinematic Artist Nikita Bohdanov, who also notes that the team tried to “convey this spirit of buoyancy and cheerfulness with [its] use of music and sound effects,” the game includes gruesome cases but also includes more fun and even naive tasks for Sherlock, who “basically has his childhood pal alongside him all the time.”
In the video shown below, you can discover more about Frogwares’ cinematic approach. Aside from this new piece of information about how the game was made, the developer also addressed the AAA comparisons.
“As we get closer to the release of SHCO, we’re hearing a lot of comments about how enthusiastic people are for the game, which is a fantastic feeling. However, we have received a number of comments comparing some of our products to much larger and more costly titles. We completely realize how important it is to have games that are technically faultless. When a team of our quality makes a game, however, we must emphasize what is most important: an emotional experience that is ideally more than the sum of its technological elements “Frogwares CEO Wael Amr issued a statement.
“We were able to build the game without any constraints because to this mentality and knowledge. And why, after 20 years of being compelled to sign away part of our inventions, we’re now allowed to publish it all on our own. It’s also why we chose a 45-dollar price tag rather than a 70-dollar pricing tag for the game.”
According to Amr, Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is Frogwares’ “largest project ever” in terms of size, playable time, new features, open-world design, and plot. It will be released on November 16 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, with Xbox One and PS4 versions following later. Along with the Victorian Starter Pack, pre-orders come with a free copy of Sherlock Holmes Crimes & Punishments.
